The next chapter for science fiction epic Mass Effect has a launch date.
Studio BioWare confirmed Mass Effect Andromeda will launch in North America on March 21 and in Europe two days later. The game, published by Electronic Arts, will appear on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Andromeda takes place years after the events of the popular Mass Effect trilogy, which concluded in 2012 with Mass Effect 3. The trilogy focused on a mechanical alien race called Reapers, which return every several thousand years to wipe out humanity. The lead character, Commander Shepard, attempts to thwart the Reapers after uncovering their plans.
Andromeda represents the first Mass Effect game hosted in an open world environment, so players are free to explore the galaxy however they choose.
“Mass Effect: Andromeda is our most ambitious Mass Effect game to date,” said Aaryn Flynn, general manager at BioWare, in a blog post. “We’re telling completely new stories, creating new characters, new planets, new species, and introducing new gameplay systems.”
The studio is expected to reveal more information on the game during Nvidia’s keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
