Push to foster black coders leads to SXSW

Mariah Cowling said “I just knew I had to go to Spelman College, even though they had no aeronautical engineering program and no engineering program, but when I got there I had a dream from God, literally, and was basically shown that this is what I was supposed to do with my life. I was supposed to use technology as my way, my avenue, to make a change in the world.” This year, SXSW has partnered with organizations such as Opportunity Hub, Huddle Ventures and Stemmed to create HBCU @ SXSW, an opportunity where over 100 students from various Historically Black Colleges and Universities earn the opportunity to network, receive me mentoring and get exposure to career opportunities while also enjoying SXSW.
